Originally a farming town, Whitehouse has become a bedroom community for Tyler with good schools and neighborhoods ranging from waterfront on Lake Tyler (South Hillcreek, Southpoint, Peninsula) to affordable (Waterton, Brittain Court). North Texas bass fisherman know Whitehouse as the gateway to Lake Tyler, and the city uses the lake for water supply. Shopping and dining is somewhat limited, but there is a Brookshire’s Grocery, Dollar General, a good barbecue stand (Ribmaster’s), a good family-style restaurant (Mamaw’s Fried Pies) and several fast-food franchises including McDonald’s, Dairy Queen, Church’s Fried Chicken, Pizza Hut and Subway.
