Soul Food

I have had to change my diet as I’ve gotten older. These days I grill a lot of boneless, skinless chicken breasts and steam broccoli. I haven’t been inside a McDonald’s, Whataburger or Dairy Queen in years, but once every month or two I will treat myself to a fried chicken breast and a honey biscuit at a Krispy Krunchy Chicken. There’s a new one on the corner of West Cumberland Road and Blue Mountain Boulevard. And there’s one at the corner of Pawluxy and Shiloh, which is where I stopped by a couple of weeks ago and met TJ and Lisa, who, in addition to the excellent fried chicken and honey-buttered biscuits, are serving up mashed potatoes and gravy, pinto beans, mac & cheese, and the best turnip greens I’ve had in years. If you find yourself in need of a soul food fix, stop by and see TJ and Lisa. And treat yourself to an order of those turnip greens.
