When I was a kid, I had a friend who lived in a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home in Waco, TX. The thing I remember best and loved most about the home was how it blended into the the terrain…it wasn’t a “showplace” in the typical sense. In fact, it wasn’t until you entered the home that you realized how grand it really was, and even there you had a sense of being “in the trees” because of the way the home was built around the grand old live oaks that shaded it.
So I was glad to read about the Chaffin’s of South Carolina whose love of Spring Island has resulted in another home, in fact a community, that celebrates Mr Wright’s theme of blending home and natural surroundings. Maresa Giovannini writes here about the “Chaffin Rivercamp”.
