Drive south out of Tyler on US 69 for about 12 miles and you come to the small town of Bullard, which is on the line between Smith and Cherokee counties. Bullard has grown a lot in the past ten years; now known for its good public schools, Bullard extends from east of US 69 west to Lake Palestine. Primarily a bedroom community with easy access to Tyler, restaurants in Bullard include Taco al Conquistador, Legends Burger Company, and Ribmasters BBQ Company while grocery shopping is available at Brookshire’s Supermarket and Pharmacy. A number of the most prestigious neighborhoods on the lake (Cumberland Ridge, Emerald Bay, Eagles Bluff) have Bullard addresses and are within the Bullard school district. The district also extends into Cherokee county where homeowners in Katima Estates pay county tax to Henderson but school taxes to Bullard. The excellent private Christian academy, Brookhill, seen above, is also in Bullard along with other sought-after neighborhoods like Pecan Valley and Bullard Creek Ranch.
